Yeah! The foundation is starting! We’ve started to build! The house is there and ready to be constructed. I’ve included some photos of the concrete guys hard at work laser sighting the foundation molds in place. Hopefully we’ll see some concrete being poured in this next week! How exciting to see some activity like this.
But wait there’s more. The crew has also been working on the excavator ridding us of those darned piles and piles AND PILES of stumps! This weekend was all about the BIG BURN (or that should be RETURN OF THE BIG BURN…since our first big burn was more of a dud). This fire was cooking! Lots of nifty pictures of the action in the photo album including a couple of time-lapse shots.
Speaking of cooking…after several attempts and runs to the local hardware store for different propane tubes, fittings, couplers and assorted gadgetry, I was finally able to get the stove in the barn hooked up to a propane tank. That, along with hooking up the water pump to the laundry sink means we officially have a working, off-grid kitchen in the barn: propane stove (and we are talking a regular sized stove/oven that you find in your house!), propane refrigerator (a nice sized one at that!), and running (albeit cold water) water on demand. Of course the running water we are using is only for cleaning, the drain goes to a bucket underneath and the water we are using is collected from the rain that falls off the roof of the barn. It works!
