It’s September and during this nice patch of weather, many outdoor activities are afoot. Helpers are welcome! Come work the land with me. I’ll be bucking logs, chain sawing firewood, clearing brush, falling trees, pulling weeds, stacking more wood, moving logs to next year’s garden spot, burning stumps, and renovating new pastures.
There is always something going on here. Much fun outdoors! The blackberries are starting to ripen, three foot zucchinis in the garden, tomatoes ripening for sauce; I’m really getting a feel for what life on a ranch is like. The livestock are off pasture for now. We’ve got to not over graze our current pastures. So, we feed them orchard grass hay.
I’ve uploaded a couple of video clip of the burning stump piles down in the lower back area. For those who attended our housewarming party, these were the stump piles at the far end of the property past the barn and pastures. You can see them from the top of the hill.
Glenn and I brought down a bunch of the brush we cut down around the pump house and put it around the stumps. I’ll be clearing some more brush this week to serve as kindling. Then I’ll take the tractor and push the remaining stumps together and fire them back up. There is a video clip from this past weekend’s burn with Tim pushing one of the stumps onto the hot coals. Be sure to check out both clips in the list at the right.
